How are we managing our 6mo-1yr old Babies active sleep?

My boy has just turned 7 months old. After not much movement in his sleep he’s always laid on his back no movement.

he is now very very active, crawling moving and pretty much not laying or sitting still AT ALL!

nights are getting pretty dreadful now with literally only a few hours of sleep due to his persistent moving.

When reading the lullaby trust, NHS guidance it says you can leave the baby lying on their front or side, but through the newborn phase it’s been something which I’ve always been in some sense very anxious about.

do we leave our babies to get comfortable or are we moving them consistently?

it probably doesn’t help he’s BF so when he’s moved as we all would he moans and wants to feed but this has now become hourly. I know he would sleep longer if I let him it’s just anxiety takes over.

Health visitor hasn’t given much advice so wondering what our recent mums are doing?

I don’t really have any advice but going through the same sort of thing with my 7.5 month old. Her sleep has got really bad in the last couple of weeks, still breastfeeding overnight. If I put her down asleep on her back and she rolls over she is awake usually, sometimes she will stay asleep so I leave her. Usually by the time I get to her she is already sitting up crying because she dared to move herself. Most of the time end up co sleeping as we both get more sleep but then she ends up wanting boob all night.

Anyway, I think if he’s ending up in a different position and is comfortable just leave him to it

Just leave him be.

I don’t know why you are moving him. He’ll sort himself out.

It’s such a horrible thing! I really understand! My partner leaves for work around 6 so I always bring him into bed with me and that’s when I finally get a few hours.

my son does the same thing!

thank you for the comment, I think you’re right. As long as they’re comfortable they are pretty content and happy.

thank you! I hope you get some rest tonight too!

It’s all because of safe sleeping and the advice that’s been set out from the new born phase. I’m sure I’m not the only one who worries about them face planting or the belly laying.

but I appreciate the comment!

thank you..

Once babies are able to roll over, move and crawl you don't have to worry about their sleep position. You should still put them down on their backs to sleep but if they roll over themselves, you don't have to keep turning them!

I did read this, I think anxiety took over a little bit more than expected at this stage.

I’ll start trying to leave him a bit more.

thank you for the advice and support!
