sharing rooms - how to do it?!

I'm expecting DC2 in December when DS1 will be 2. Obviously DC2 will be in a cot in our room for a while but ultimately they will have to share. Any tips on preparing DS1? Should i rearrange the room before DC2 is born? although the cot will have to be in our room for a bit so not sure how to do this really. Also, as it will be about the time DS1 would be going into a bed (i think - having never been there!) would it make sense to delay this for a bit? It just seems to be asking for trouble to put him in a bed that he can get out of at the same time as putting a new baby in there who he could poke and prod and do all sorts of lovely things to!

Any tips gratefully received!

I put dd2 in with dd1 when she was about 8-9m (dd1 would have been about 3.4, I think)

It was fine. DD1 obv in a bed already (I would get him settled in a bed first) and dd2 in a cot.

Both sleep through if the other wakes in the night. But if one wakes in the morning they do wake the other up! But the upside to that is that they occupy each other in their room for a while, rather than waking ME up
