I CAN'T FARKING SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

I've had trouble getting to sleep the past few nights. I thought it was cause we've got a lot to do over next few weeks (got 2 appointments with paeds about ds, going to be a bridesmaid at bro's wedding, hen and stag do, going on holiday straight after wedding etc etc) so I thought if I wrote down all the things I have to remember to do then they won't go round in my head and i'll be able to sleep but NO!
I have just been lying in bed for about an hour and a half, not really thinking about much, just random boring things but I can not get to sleep.
Somebody suggest something please???!!!

no help, but here I am and I can't sleep either!!!

NutterlyUts · 27/06/2008 01:08

I have this problem. I have 2 ways of combating it.

Option 1) I lie in bed, and mentally make every bit of me go to sleep, starting with each toe, then my instep, then heel, then ankle, calf, fat bit of calf etc until I get up to as far as needed. I tend to get as far as my stomach usually before I'm out like a light (I guess from a mix of boredom, preparing my mind its sleeptime and subconsciously winding down) It seems to work extra well if you mentally make that part of you feel like its asleep iyswim? This is my normal try and sleep method and I only resort to the other if it doesn't work.

Option 2) I set my alarm for normal wake up time. I then keep myself busy until my eyes can't stay open any longer and then let myself sleep, and get up at normal time (even if I fall asleep at 5.30 and have to get up at 5.45). I really struggle to stay awake all day, but the next night I will sleep like the dead, then I tend to sleep normally again [disclaimer.. this is what works for me..]

Hope that helps?

Thanks for the tips nutterlyuts, I'm afriad I actually tried option 1 but I had aggitated leg syndrome which I get when tired so it didn't work this time. Am now on to option 2 which is why i'm on MN
Weegiemum - weird you've popped in on here, was just reading another post of yours about your mother blanking you at your grans funeral (please excuse me if i have you mixed up with someone else, am tired) anyway, I have a very toxic mother and a dad who just goes along with everything she does and says for a quiet life, haven't spoken to her for nearly 3 years now...

Wine

Dalrymps · 27/06/2008 01:17

wine is tempting but 1 - am on a diet and 2 - I don't have any.

Desiderata · 27/06/2008 01:22

Well, goddammit on both scores

Because by God, you'd sleep like an angel!

Dalrymps · 27/06/2008 01:25

EyeballsintheSky · 27/06/2008 03:13

Hrumph. Lightweights...

Dalrymps · 27/06/2008 08:44

eyeballsinthesky - your post made me lol this moring, I turned my pillow over SO MANY TIMES last night

OP posts:
EyeballsintheSky · 27/06/2008 09:08

Morning Dairy. Sleep well?

Why do we like the cold side of the pillow? If anything else is cold we warm it up... I could have pondered this at 3am if I'd thought about it...

Dalrymps · 27/06/2008 09:32

Yeah, I woke dh up and complained to him that I couldn't sleep then I felt better about it and dropped of at some point.... I think I like the cold side cause when i'm overtired my whole body kind of feels warm but not in a cosy way and I start to feel iritated by this so the pillow is cooling and relaxing, or something like that? You sleep ok?

OP posts:
ninja · 27/06/2008 09:36

apparantly women sllep better without men so option 1 - go to the spare room (always works for me and Churchill apparantly)

option 2 - keep a fairly dull/factual bok by the bed and try and read it, soon toyr eyes will be drooping

Dalrymps · 27/06/2008 09:38

ninja, I had considered a book but MN was far too tempting

OP posts:
ninja · 27/06/2008 09:53

Yes but that's a common man's mistake - TV and computers stimulate the mind! But at least you don't have someone breathing over your shoulder waititng to do fantasy football.

dylsmum1998 · 27/06/2008 10:32

i tried the book was reading one of my uni ones, they normally send me off but i couldnt concentrate and my mind ended up elsewhere i went off at 2.30 in the endgot 3 hours before dd woke me

Dalrymps · 27/06/2008 12:52

yeah I thought the computer might wake me more but though what the hey... have caught up a bit now, managed to sleep for an hour and a half whilst ds had his morning nap

OP posts:
EyeballsintheSky · 27/06/2008 18:02

Had nothing to do this morning so me and dd had a bottle and went back to sleep after DH had gone. Lovely and warm and cuddly I always keep my phone beside me for emergency surfing when I can't sleep!

expatinscotland · 27/06/2008 18:07

sympathies!

i have had insomnia since i was about 13 years old.

and now am pregnant, so can't take my melatonin or herbs or dose up on Benedryl.

i've even had to get prescription tranqs in the past just to break out of the sleepless rut.

i haven't had an unbroken night's sleep in months.

last night i went to a parents' night out, but of course then DS1 didn't want to let me sleep after that - am 23 weeks along now. i woke up all night choking on stomach acid and flailing for my Gaviscon, poor DD2 is so ill with hayfever she coughed to the point of being sick all over her bed at 3am, DD1 then work me with her dry cough and needed more glycerine and honey.

arrggghhh!!!
