8 month old sleep- advice needed!

My LO is 8.5 month old and their sleep has been off for a few weeks now. They had two more bottom teeth come in which I thought was the reason for it all but it’s carried on for 2 weeks now since they’ve come through.

Some info- LO has dropped to two naps a day, approx 2.5-3 hours sleep during the day. Bedtime is around 7.30pm. Bedtime routine hasn’t changed, they still have a bottle before bed (thinking of trying to drop this). They will generally fall asleep pretty easily and then around 10 they will wake up and take maybe 2-4 attempts to go back in the cot. They will then get upset a lot of the times they roll onto their stomach through the night. They first started sleeping on their front months ago and seemed to get over the getting upset when rolling onto their front, but this is now back with a vengeance. They will sometimes have a 2/3 hour wake window in the middle of the night, sometimes they will wake every hour/ two hours, they will occasionally have a better night where they go back down ok after waking a few times in the night. Their ‘norm’ would be maybe waking 1 or 2 times, needing a quick cuddle/ bottle, then going back to sleep.

LO has been crawling for a while and pulling to stand for about a month. They are desperate to walk and are getting much more vocal so I appreciate there’s a huge amount of development going on. I’ve tried longer daytime naps, capping naps, changing layers of clothes, dummy/ no dummy. I’ve tried to encourage self soothing but they still need held to sleep before bed and if they wake overnight. It’s as though they need to be in a deep sleep before being put in the cot or else they start crying. They’re generally a very good baby with little fuss during the day. I can hold them for around 10/20 seconds and put them down drowsy and that will be them asleep until after nap ends. Totally different to night time!

Has anyone else experienced this? Any sleep experts out there who have any advice? It doesn’t seem to be getting better as time passes and any previous regressions have normally sorted themselves by now!

Sorry for the ridiculously long post, hopefully there are some suggestions out there so we can all get a bit of extra sleep!!

Way too much day sleep combined with too early bedtime. I'd cut day sleep down to 2 x 1 hour naps and do 8pm bedtime. Their sleep needs reduce as they get towards 12 months old so you have to adjust. And you need to stick to a change for a few weeks to see a difference. Longer naps won't help, they're clearly undertired for the night.
