Any tips to help my 21-month-old sleep through the night

Hello, im wondering if anyone has any magic ways to help my 21 month old stay asleep. Im currently pregnant with baby number 2 and I am exhausted.

We have a good routine and everything is clockwork except for the fact he keeps waking through the night. Hes always been a bad sleeper but I really thought he'd of grown out of it by now.

He wakes up between 4-5am depending on the day and then I have to take him into our bed to try and get one more hour if im lucky (no way am I starting my day that early) he then has his breakfast, a play, a snack and then we usually go out for about an hour before his nap at 11. He usually naps between 90-130 mins, then wakes up, has lunch, play time then dinner is at 5.30, we go for a walk at 6, bath time is 7, then its supper (toast with avocado or peanut butter to keep him full) then we read a book, sing some songs and he goes to sleep at 7.30-8.00. He gets put down awake and manages to put himself to sleep 9 times out of 10.

We have white noise, blackout curtains and teddies he cuddles yet he wakes up every single night. It can be anytime from 1am til 4am and he either takes 45 mins to settle back in his bed or I give up due to pure exhaustion and take him into our bed which still takes about 45 mins for him to settle.

I've tried all other self help ideas and none are working but I need to have a solid few hours sleep asap. Does anyone have a suggestion I haven't tried?! Tia x

Your DS has a huge nap and I would cut it right down and cap it at 90mins. I had a terrible sleeper too who would catch up with a marathon nap in the day then be up at night. As soon as I put an end to that his night sleep improved.

It’s always the nap.

Thank you both, I'll try capping it from today to see if it helps x

Definitely cap the nap at 1 hour; but don’t move bedtime earlier: mine is 20 months and we capped her nap at 1 hour since she went to 1 nap. She now sleeps through 99% of the time

Mine had dropped her nap altogether by 18 months - it was the only way to stop the 4am waking. I thought it was way too early not to have a nap but she thrived and would sleep 7pm to 8am without a peep.
