10 month old waking at 3am and only settling in our bed

My 10 month old who wasnt a perfect sleeper is now a terrible sleeper.

He goes to bed around 7:30/8:00 and everynight for the last week he is waking up at 3am screaming, we hold him and rock him back to sleep but he has started gripping our clothing and everytime we put him back in his crib he screams. We must put him back down about 4/5 times where we give up because we are exhausted and put him in bed with us where he is still tearful but manages to fall asleep?

I have read online he could be in a sleep regression but I'm not sure if what we are doing with bringing him in to bed with us just so we can sleep is the right thing or is it creating an issue?

It's fine if you are practising safe co-sleeping

Currently have a 4 month old with this issue. Also have 2 teenagers who co slept but did eventually settle into own beds, just never liked a cot. I’m not stressing too much about it as I know it won’t last forever.

They can develop separation anxiety around this age. He just needs the reassurance that you're there. Just bring him to bed and get some sleep.

Fwiw, neither of mine ever slept in a cot. I bedshared with them from day 1, and by the time they were 15 months they were happily settling themselves and sleeping through the night. I didn't do anything other than wait for them to get older. We had a mattress on the floor and a gate on the door.

None of our kids liked a basket or cot by 13 months they were all in there own wee beds and never looked back
