Have another thread on the go about ds getting up 5-5.30. He is asleep by 7.30pm and will sleep through and now getting up this early (dont think anything to do with the light as has been happening since jan/feb) he has a nap around 12.30 for 1 1/2 - 2 hours, sometimes even 3! Just wondering what your dc's have. Do they still nap? Going to bed later does not work (plus i dont agree with him going any late anyway!) i dont want to drop his nap as he sleeps soundly and obviously needs it. If i try to wake him up earlier from his nap he is extremly grouchy and will cry and whinge for about half an hour

DD 2.4 Bed 8pm up 6.30 / 7 ish. Nap about 2 hrs max. No nap nightmare child .

Seona1973 · 19/06/2008 19:57

ds is 20 months - he has a nap from around 12.30pm and sleeps for up to 2/2 1/2 hours (I wake him by 3pm if he has not woken already though). He goes to bed for 7.30pm and wakes somewhere between 6 and 6.30am although I dont go and get him at once so it can be 6.45am by the time I drag myself out of bed.

UnderRated · 19/06/2008 20:01

DS is 2.9

I would say, he sleeps for 12 - 14 hours. 12 at night and often 1 -2 during the day.

BroccoliSpears · 19/06/2008 20:08

2.1 yr old dd - usually about 13 hrs sleep in 24.

ScoobyDoo · 19/06/2008 20:12

DD is 2.5 she has about 12hrs a night & a 1-2 hr nap in the day (not every day) no nap today which ment very unpleasant dd!

EachPeachPearMum · 19/06/2008 20:12

Dd (2.4) 12 hours at night, 1.5 after lunch. She has always needed a lot of sleep though...

woodward · 19/06/2008 20:14

2.9.Sleeps 11 hours.from 7pm till 6ish am. dropped his nap bout 6 mnths ago

Jas · 19/06/2008 20:14

Ds is 2.4.

Bed at 7, asleep by7.30, up any time between 5.30 and 7. No nap for the last 6 months....any daytime sleep at all meant him being awake until gone 10pm.

I've messed it up this week by attempting to put him in a bed, so as a consequence he is still up now.

crokky · 19/06/2008 20:17

DS needs virtually no sleep (2.2 yo). Sleeps 1 hour in day (not always), 8 or 9 hours at night if lucky! So maybe 9 or 10 hours sleep in 24. He has always been a very poor sleeper, but I don't think it is a reflection of what parents have/have not done as my DD sleeps a lot. Both looked after in the same way!

I am tired!!!!!!!!!!!!!

coppertop · 19/06/2008 20:19

Dd is 2.3yrs. She doesn't seem to need much sleep.

If she has no nap in the daytime she will sleep from about 9pm until 7am.

If she has even a 1hr nap in the daytime she is then awake until at least midnight and then up at 8am.

So 8 - 10hrs for dd.

ceebee74 · 19/06/2008 20:20

Hi Mad4 - I think our DS's are a very similar age iirc - mine is 23 months.

He goes to bed at 7.30ish, sleeps until about 6.30am. He has a nap of 90 minutes (between 1pm and 2.30pm) - I rarely let him sleep past 2.30 for his nap even though he probably would as I always have to wake him up but fortunately he doesn't mind being woken up (usually bribery of watching Thomas between 2.30 and 3 works )

coppertop · 19/06/2008 20:20

I see Crokky has a clone of my dd.

Flamesparrow · 19/06/2008 20:22

DS gets about 10-11 at night (broken up half the time with the walk to my bed ), and a couple of hours in the day - although that is easing off now.

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 21:06

so my ds sounds pretty normal then?! Just dont know what i can do to get him to stay asleep an extra hour in the morning. I wouldnt mind 6.30! That'd be a lay in! Any suggestions? If i cut his nap is it not mean? Surely if he's asleep he needs it? His nap has been the same for along time, since he went to 1 nap. about aged 1 i think. Any suggestions oh wise ones??

My ds sounds identical to yours! He sleeps 7:30pm to 5am and no matter what we do he doesn't sleep any longer. He will happily nap 2-2.5 hours. He used to sleep 12 hours a night! Is your ds very active during the day as I have heard that early waking is more common with active boys. Can't wait for the magic answer to get back to 6am waking (never thought I would think 6am was a lay in!)...

heymammy · 20/06/2008 14:46

DD2 23 months sleeps 14-15 hours out of 24. 12 thru the night and 2-3 during the day.

She napped until 5pm yesterday and still went to bed at 7

CatIsSleepy · 20/06/2008 14:49

dd sleeps about 11 hours a night, and can sleep up to 3 hours in the day (though I don't think she naps for that long the days when she's at the childminder's, more like 1-2 hours I think)

fluffyanimal · 20/06/2008 14:53

DS goes to sleep between 7.30 and 8pm, and wakes between 5.30 and 6.30, has a daytime nap of about an hour.

mad4mybaby · 23/06/2008 09:23

sorry, im going to moan again. I really cant keep getting up at 5am. Im so exhausted. I go to bed early and try to nap when he does! Running out of steam! For the last3 days i have been waking him up after 1 1/2 hours at naptime to see if it helps....not yet!

IdrisTheDragon · 23/06/2008 09:24

DD is 2.9. Doesn't nap during the day (hasn't for about a year). Generally sleeps between about 11 and 12 hours at night.

mad4mybaby · 23/06/2008 09:28

ds is only 2 this month and there is no way he cant have a nap. He falls asleep in the car if we're out an hour or so before naptime!

OP posts:
hairtwiddler · 23/06/2008 09:32

Mine has 12-13 hours a night with no nap (7-7:30-8am). Gave up the nap at 2yrs. She's 2.6 now.

Walnutshell · 23/06/2008 09:36

You may have to grin and bear it for a while mad4. ds (now 2.7) went through a longish phases of getting up at that unforgiveable time but, like you have found, putting him to bed later made no difference and I agree he also needed his nap. Now he usually wakes around 6.15-6.45am (an improvement, alhtough not a marvellous one) and sometimes has a nap in the afternoon (anything from 15 mins nod-off in the car to a marathon 3 hours) and is in bed by 7.30pm ideally (earlier if no nap) although on the occasion he's had a very long nap, it might be a bit later.

Erm, sorry, haven't given you much hope there!

Walnutshell · 23/06/2008 09:38

mad4 - just re-reading your last posts. Exactly the same experience as you and in our case it has only been time that has changed things. But these phases don't seem to drag on for too long, although it feels it at the time. (Even now I will sometimes go to bed in the afternoon when ds does)

Now, the getting into our bed around 3/4am every single night is another matter!

JRocks · 23/06/2008 09:42

DS is 2.7... he usually goes to bed between 7.30-8 and gets up at about 7am. Naps are quite random, I don't usually schedule one into the day, but if we're out in the car he'll fall asleep, or at home if he's really tired will nod off on the sofa. I try not to let him sleep for too long during the day as it does affect how much he'll have overnight. He can be quite grouchy if I wake him but I try to get out in the fresh air quite quickly as a distraction. I've found lots of physical activity does help. I read once that toddlers are like labradors, they need lots of exercise! Certainly true of DS
