DS keeps waking at 5am

My 11m ds is going through a horrendous early morning waking phase . He wakes up between 5 and 6 and shouts for milk. He then plays for a bit and wants to go back to sleep about 2 hours later.

He doesn't have that much daytime sleep and I've tried ignoring him. Doesn't work.
Anyone got any ideas how to get him to sleep later?

Have you tried blackout curtains? with lighter mornings your son may think it's later than it is so wakes up earlier. Darker curtains may trick him into sleeping longer!

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my 20 month old since clocks changed _ i've tried blackout curtains, dark card over window, keeping him up later, feeding him more at night etc but no joy. Think I'll just have to resign myself to 5.30am starts until October!!

Hi, same problem, and have had 5am starts for 6 months now.. even when the clocks changed so did DS internal clock and he still woke at 5am! He's started walking lots now and seems to sleep till 6am, and if we are lucky 6:30am. Think some kids are larks... sounds like you have one. One thing that helps is putting a few soft toys for him to play with in the morning - gives us about 20mins to slowly open our eyes to go to him.

ooh snap

ds2 11mo and wakes at 5ish

always has (since he had any kind of pattern to his days/nights, that is)

ds1 was an obscenely early riser too - only improved once all naps had been dropped

have tried everything - nothing makes any difference - agree that some children are just Like This
