Hi all

my DS is 6 months old and has suspected cmpa. I’ve been dairy and soya free for 4 months and he also has the occasional bottle on neocate. The painful crying has stopped but he still has eczema. What I’m really struggling with is his sleep. He only sleeps on my chest and will not sleep in his cot. We get 10/15 minutes if we’re lucky. He won’t cosleep either cos he wants to be held. Please help - when did sleep improve for your little one and what did you do to help it? Thanks

My DS also has CMPA and soya intolerance. Do you know what’s causing his sleep troubles? Does he have reflux? Is he itchy from the eczema?

I didnt see an improvement in poos, skin, and spit up until I switched fully to formula. I also (and I may get roasted for this, but I kept a very close eye) added a TINY bit of baby rice to help keep the formula down. I had to knock out the bottle teat so it would flow better because we also have a tongue tie.

As for eczema, we use epaderm (in the pot) and Bioderma ATODERM HUILE DE DOUCHE Shower Oil for very dry to atopic skin. I also got a steroid cream from the GP which I use sparingly for bad spots/breakouts.

the last thing about sleep - and you need to make sure he’s okay health wise before doing this - is you may need to sleep train him so he knows he can sleep on his own. Maybe he’s built a bad habit of needing to sleep on you?

My DS had severe CMPA and was diagnosed at two weeks old with some nasty symptoms, which also didn't fully clear up until we went exclusively formula. ( Nutramigen ). His top one being a " burn" type skin inflammation across his face and lips which broke the skin, and pain in his tummy. He was hysterical after every feed, and I was delusional with sleep deprivation trying to BF and top up. I was dairy and soya free by then, but there was still something triggering him in my breast milk. The difference in him when I went exclusively to his prescription formula was night and day.

He also wouldn't sleep without being on one of us, he was uncomfortable. But when he went into his milk he went straight into an expected feeding schedule and would sleep decent length of time in-between feeds finally.

It was gently suggested by a health visitor. CMPA often comes with other sensitivities.

Just sharing my experience. 🙂

Thanks for answering both. I’m in the process of weaning my LO from breastfeeding and hoping and praying the formula will make a difference.
