Overtired and screaming

I am a FTM of a gorgeous 12 week old. I am massively struggling.

My little girl will not sleep unless she is SHATTERED. I mean, tired to the point of screaming herself horse. She goes from laughing to 3 seconds later screaming until she is so distressed she is holding her breath and choking. It’s really distressing to see. This happens every nap without fail. Same with bedtime. The screaming and holding breath happens also when she is hungry, there is no in between it’s either happy baby or screaming mess - within seconds. I am so exhausted… I have tried shortening the wake window so starting to try and get her to nap before she is “tired” but that doesn’t work, she just gets really angry, and screams until again, overtired and will finally go down. The screams are not normal screaming, she sounds like she is in the worst pain of her life.

She Has a dummy and is starting to rely on it to sleep now.

I feel like a failure - she is so so upset most of the day. Has anyone else gone through this? Does it get better? I feel like I am causing this in some way. I just don’t know how to help her.

You're correct that this isn't normal baby sleep behaviour, even at 12 weeks.

I'd be checking in with the GP to look for any potential reflux or digestive issues.
