Nearly 7 month old won’t nap

I am really just hoping for someone to please tell me this gets better, I didn’t have this with my first child.

My daughter is nearly 7 months old. Since around 5 1/2 months she will not nap past 30-40mins maximum which in turn has caused her to start waking overnight (previously was sleeping 7-4/5am feeding then back to sleep until 7ish). Now she goes to bed 7, some nights is up 8:30, 10, 12, 3ish. Some nights not as bad.

Yesterday I contact napped her so she had 2 really good naps because once she woke at that 30/40 min mark I patted her bum and got her back to sleep where as in her cot by the time you’ve gone in she’s already wide awake. This massively improved her sleep overnight.

I just don’t know how to get her to stop waking every 30/40 mins in her cot during the day. I can’t contact nap her all of the time as I also have a 3 year old.

i have also stopped breastfeeding her to sleep for her naps and this was going well but today it has been a screaming match trying to get her to sleep. It took me 2 hours to get her to have a nap this morning for it to last 35 minutes!

please someone just tell me this phase ends it’s really getting me down because I’m finding juggling both of my kids during this phase

It's a phase! My DD only ever contact naps. She ONLY just started going in the cot for daytime naps as she finally started sleeping through once we night weaned her (13m old). She finally figured out how to self settle and will have 1h+ in the cot.

It's definitely a phase - a very hard one! My DD would only sleep in the cot for 25-40 mins until aged 9.5 months when she started doing longer stretches of 1hr plus for her naps and sleeping throught the night. Before that, I'd religiously take her out everyday in the pram to get her to have a decent nap. She's now 10 months and still napping better and [mostly] sleeping through the night. I think it just clicked for her at a certain age x

I don’t remember my oldest going through this! I do always remember saying she was a cat napper until she dropped to 2 naps but her day time sleep seemed to have zero impact on her night sleep where as this baby is must do because the worse her naps the worse her nights!

it’s just nice to hear people say it gets better isn’t it!
