4 month old routine

Hello!

i have been trying to establish a routine for a while now for my little boy and we have so far been able to get him into his next to me for his morning, lunch and afternoon nap and for the most part can self settle in these naps and always goes down awake in the cot.

we have a routine for bedtime - bath, bottle, book and down in the cot awake to self settle…. 42 mins like clockwork, one sleep cycle and we have screaming until around 9ish and then it’s his feed again at 10.30/11pm. When he cries during his lunchtime nap I will allow a couple of minutes and then use the dummy.

He can sleep thru the night from 11pm until 7am usually with no problem, has the usual stirs at 5am but a dummy sorts that.

our day time naps can be anything from 3-4hours a day.

can anyone provide any advice on what I’m doing wrong here or how I can get my baby to settle for the evening?

thank you! X

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. Sleeping through from 11 to 7 consistently at 4 months is practically miraculous. What is it that you actually want to change?

Ah thank you!

it’s that 7-11 part, he’s very unsettled and almost like forgets how to self settle… wondering if I am missing something here! X

He is 4 months old they don't know how to "self-settle".

I'm unclear on your 7-11 issue. You put him down at 7?, he naps 42 mins then wakes up unsettled?, and is upset til his feed at 1030ish?

Yes sorry - I wasn’t clear apologies!

from that 7-11 he is tired but wakes frequently upset and needing help resettling but can do naps and overnight perfect! I was just wondering if I’m going something wrong, not him xx

I was going to say the same - you probably need a later bedtime though, 7pm is too early for a baby who is napping that much in the day. I think I was going to bed with our daughter at that age, about 9/10pm. And I really wouldn't stress over a set routine, it'll change constantly over the next 12-18 months, get out and enjoy your day. You want baby to be able to nap in different ways like buggy, car and carrier.

People whose babies sleep 8 hours straight at 4 months old are living in a totally different world!
