Tired 4 year old - not enough sleep?

My 4 year old is often tired in the day and I suspect he is not sleeping well at night. Some nights he stays in his room but often he comes through into our bed. A family member has recently shared a room with him for a few nights and said he was awake for a couple of hours in the middle of the night, just taking to himself (I am a deep sleeper so have never noticed this), he also wakes up very early 5-6am or sometimes earlier. Again I'm often not sure of the exact time as he will do jigsaws in his room by himself for a while. This would all be fine as he doesn't usually disrupt our sleep too much but I'm starting to suspect he's getting far less sleep than I realise and he is often very tired in the day. Definitely doesnt have the 'endless energy' you hear about children having and is usually asleep by 6pm, sometimes earlier. Im thinking of trying magnesium for him, is there anything else that can help sleep?

If he's asleep by 6pm and up at 5/6am then he's getting a decent chunk of sleep. Are you sure he's actually awake when he's talking? My son sleep talks a lot.
