2.5year old screaming bedtime

My DS will turn 3 in Feb and has been a fantastic sleeper since 7 months. I would put him in the cot, walk out and he'd fall asleep on his own. He is now wanting to sleep in my room or me sleep in his room so he knows someone is there at all times. He wakes in the night screaming to be taken to "mummy's room". Any advice on how to get him back to sleeping independently in his room again???

We had the same issue and we cracked it by using a star chart, so he got a star for each night that he didn’t shout (but we made clear that he should shout if there was a problem such as feeling ill) and at the end of the week he got a ginger bread man. We talked about the star chart endlessly so he was constantly reminded of it. On the first day he slept through we gave him a small present that morning so he could see that it was worth it! It worked really well.

Thanks so much! I've honestly tried the star chart and bribing with Santa presents under the tree. Nothing seems to work 😕

I could’ve written this except mine isn’t 3 until May! She has started doing exactly the same. We used to put her in her cot at 7 and she would go straight to sleep. Now it’s hours of her shouting and she eventually goes off about 9.30! She has decided she is scared of the dark so we have to leave the landing light on but then she sits and plays in her cot 😂 I’m trying to be stricter on wake times and lunchtime nap as she’s clearly not that tired. I think it may just be a new stage of separation anxiety that she will grow out of in a couple of weeks 😩😂
