13mo floor bed recommendations - guard rails or none?

We are considering a floorbed for 13mo DS and would love any tips or recommendations.

I’ve read it’s better to get a small double rather than a single, so I can roll away after feeding him to sleep. Is there anything else we need to bear in mind?

I know if we get one with a low side rail then I need to make sure the slats are close together, but also, are the low railed ones safe? Should we just get a mattress on a base?

We just had a mattress on a base with no rails for ours and it was fine. Would definitely recommend a small double for the reason you say! Also good for snuggling and reading stories/if they have nightmares. Also means you don't have to buy another bed for a while - my 8-year-old is still in his small double that he's had since he was a toddler!
