6MO wakes frequently at night, goes back to sleep with dummy then pulls it out

My DD is just over 6 months old, she slept okay-ish in her next to me crib but since being in her own room she wakes frequently through the night, if we go in and put the dummy in she will turn her head and go back to sleep, but within seconds she brings her hands to her face, rubs her eyes and pulls the dummy out, then cries for it again. This repeats for 15-30 mins until she eventually properly falls asleep again, but it happens every hour. What do I do!!! Sometimes it starts at 9pm, sometimes 1am. We get to the point where we bring her into our bed where we can more easily keep her arms down. In the day she fully knows how to pull out her dummy and put it back in, but at night she doesn’t even try to put it back in.

Sometimes she will be more awake and start smacking the dummy around in the cot, this always takes longer to resettle her.

Is this a phase? When does it end?!

I think this is a common phase with dummy users and there’s two approaches to it, wean them off the dummy or scatter dummies freely around the cot and wait a few weeks until they can find their own dummy and resettle themselves. I did the last one but possibly should have suffered for a week and done the first.
