How to fix split nights/3am wake up?

My baby is 6 months old and for the last few weeks has been waking up at around 3am for around an hour. I give him a feed, then he's held for ages until he's asleep again or drowsy enough to be put down. Other than this, he's a great sleeper. He did a big stretch of about 8 hours last night, woke a little after 3, but didnt fall asleep until 4:40. 😴 He can self soothe and we've just started putting him in his cot awake to fall asleep. Which he's taking to well so far! Is this just a phase that needs riding out, or do you think there's something we can do to fix this? Thanks 😊

I believe that “biphasic sleep” is meant to be the natural way of things, and it’s only recently that people have expected to do one big long sleep session.

Doesn't sound that unusual. Often split nights can be due to undertiredness, so you could try a later bedtime and / or longer awake before bedtime.
