Considering moving my toddler to a bed but we’ve just had a new baby…

So my 20 month old has always been a dreadful sleeper. My husband has been going to comfort her when she wakes at night and she absolutely howls every time he leaves, meaning he either has to hold her or sleep next to her cot on the floor. This is always been an issue but we now also have a 4 day old baby and neither of us are getting any sleep and we’re completely desperate.

I know all the advice is not to create any changes in the house after the baby comes but I’m not sure how much longer we can keep doing what we’re doing (we’ve tried everything including Ferber to get her to sleep). Has anyone had a similar experience with introducing a bed around this situation?

Thanks

Mine were all in a single bed with a roll out bar by the time they were 2. If you think it will help, do it.

My first DS hated his cot, so he was on a little bed next to our bed. When I had my second DS he also was in with us, but he was such a mover in his sleep, we put him in his own room which had a single bed and a cot. DH and I never knew where we each were, but it worked, we all slept well. DS1 went into the bedroom with his brother when the younger was 2 and both were sleeping in beds.

It may be a bit late and our DD was 3 when DS arrived but we big-upped the bigger room with the double bed which she had decorated in her choice of colours (managed to get the blancmange pink on just 1 wall and a slightly less eye boggling pink on the other walls!) and she moved from the floor level single bed to the big girls double with room for all the teddy bears too - I think if you do it then try to get across that it’s a change for big girls / boys etc, seemed to work for my DD anyway
good luck!

Thanks for your replies! I think we’ll give it a go and just make a fuss of her for it. Hopefully it’s not too many changes all at once!
