4 month sleep regression advice

My baby is 4.5 months and has been in the 4 month sleep regression for around 2 weeks. We have managed to get him to a point where he generally sleeps 3-4 hours at first but then is waking up hourly the rest of the night. Online it says try the drowsy bit awake method which doesn’t work and he fully wakes up wides wide open everytime we try this. I really need some advice, is this really temporary? Will what I do now cement how he sleeps in the future?

This is when I sleep trained. They’re never going back to the sleepy newborn stage, alas.

We just rode it out and kept a routine. It took weeks. But we didn't want to sleep train. Baby is 5 months now and can sleep over 7 hours in a row some nights. I was panicking about it at the time, but it just changed on it's own. We still rock him to sleep, it can take a while before they learn how to fall to sleep independently. Just do what you need to do to get through it. 😊
