4 month sleep regression advice

My baby is 4.5 months and has been in the 4 month sleep regression for around 2 weeks. We have managed to get him to a point where he generally sleeps 3-4 hours at first but then is waking up hourly the rest of the night. Online it says try the drowsy bit awake method which doesn’t work and he fully wakes up wides wide open everytime we try this. I really need some advice, is this really temporary? Will what I do now cement how he sleeps in the future?

Oh it’s tough, I was there a few months ago with my first and it lasted about 2 months. What helped for us was cutting naps short, so working out total sleep needs in the Huckleberry app, if your baby needs 12 hours total sleep a day, then to do 10 hours at night, they’d need only two hours during the day, every baby will be different. Another thing that helped was keeping them up for 3-4 hours before bed, my DD could do this and slept better when truly tired. I didn’t sleep train (although I would have if my other tactics didn’t work) so I sometimes still feed to sleep etc when she wakes in the night. She sleeps most of the night now with only one wake up so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Also are you breastfeeding? I pumped a bottle of milk and gave it before bed so I knew if she woke after a couple of hours she wasn’t hungry so my husband went to settle her.
