Sleep consultant worth it?

Hi all,

I have a 7 month old baby who feeds to sleep and wakes at least every hour through the evening and night. Each time he wants to be fed back to sleep. I am losing my grip on reality thanks to the tiredness 😂 I’ve tried helping him self settle and he is having none of it- he’s very strong willed!

My question is- has anyone been in the same situation and used a sleep consultant and had it work? If so, which did you use and how much did you pay. I want to look into it but don’t want to waste money if it won’t work! Thanks!

It will work OP. When I was in your shoes ( a long time ago!) I used Ann Caird recommended on here. I am not sure she is still working. I think sleep consultants are much more common now you may find one through a local mums network so you can work face to face. Broadly they will all do the same things - break the feed back to sleep cycle.
when we did it I was just too tired to stay focussed in the dead of night and needed someone to tell me to do! It worked within about 2 weeks.

Thankyou @holidayfever2024 do you remember how much you paid by any chance? I’ve been quoted £350 for a bespoke plan with lots of 1:1 support and from what I can see that’s quite a normal price? But seems a lot when you’re on mat leave 😂

I don’t know what we paid to be honest but I think that sounds reasonable - what price can you put on sleep and sanity ! I was back at work when we did it and still felt like I was spending money that shouldn’t have been necessary- but then again I really needed to keep my job so it was a sound investment. She was like a therapist I still remember how reassuring and confident she was.
good luck with it .

Hello! I used one recently for £150 and it worked a treat - best money spent! She was great explaining what we needed to do and then supporting us on WhatsApp each day for 2 weeks. Let me know if you want her details.

@Mummaandme did you have to leave your little one to cry at all? Or be in the room while they cried? That’s what I’m struggling with! We are using a sleep consultant but not getting anywhere as I just can’t listen to him cry for ages 😢

Ah yes it’s not easy - there was some crying involved. I was usually in the room and had set intervals in which to offer comfort. Whilst not fun to start with I was amazed how quickly it worked once I trusted the process. My sleep consultant was so lovely and supported me a lot throughout. I hope it works for you.
