12 month sleep regression or time for a change??

DS is about to turn 1 and is on the very edge of walking (can stand unsupported and walk supported), and is not sleeping. Skipping naps, not going going down to sleep, waking up multiple times in night and not settling back down and again in morning.

We have been co-sleeping and nursing to nap, sleep and back to sleep since the 4 month sleep regression destroyed anything else. And it's been mostly working even getting full nights without one waking, and when he hasn't theres usually been a reason like teething, sore tummy or a cold.

I'm back to work soon and DH wants to sleep train in anticipate for this so he can get DS to sleep or back to sleep as well, and will this would be great any attempts we've made so far just seemed in danger of wrecking something that was mostly working.

But now I'm left questioning if l this is just something to ride out or it is time for a change

Thanks

Hi OP! What's her nap/sleep schedule like currently? We went through something similar with my DD (just turned 15 months) and it coincided with dropping to 1 nap alongside walking independently (which started at about 13.5 months). We are finally emerging from the thick of it now! I would take a look at their total sleep amount in 24 hours - my DD is hard to settle if she is over OR undertired annoyingly. The skipping naps could be a sign she needs to start working towards dropping to 1 nap. If she's having 2 still, start by cutting the morning one down to no more than 30 mins and then the second can be around 1.5 hours.

Thanks noramoo. Since learning to crawl he's constantly had 2 naps a day around 10-11am and 3-4pm around 1-2 hours each. 10-11pm bedtime and then up anytime between 6-9am. He seemed to get enough altogether and not be overtired at all.

Before crawling he usually only had one nap a day but never took to a schedule so whenever he felt like it and mostly when out in his stroller or being driven. He almost always falls asleep while being driven so we try to do this around nap time but we dont he seems to adapt. So far we've found the mor easy going we are the better he sleeps.

No he's maybe napping 30min twice a day or 1 hour once a day and then as little as 6 hours of broken sleep overnight. And he does seem wired. As our we
