A couple of questions about linking sleep cycles

So my LO is 4 months (just). I've been reading a lot about the 4 month regression and linking sleep cycles. We're currently going through the regression and have been for a few weeks. My baby wakes after about 1 hour 45 mins in the night. Does this mean he's struggling to link sleep cycles? For naps he can sometimes go over an hour on his own, but tends to wake up 30-40 mins in and need help getting back to sleep. He can sleep in his pushchair for over and hour. Does this mean he's linking sleep sometimes and not others?

Also, did your LO naturally start linking their sleep cycles as they got older? Or is it more likely you have to help them learn?

I'm intimidated by it all and feel pretty clueless! The more I read, the more stressed I feel! We aren't getting the sleep we need, I'm really hoping my baby can start sleeping longer stretches soon.

Some babies will naturally just start doing this and others will take much longer. In my experience (3 babies) crap naps are normal at this age and generally naturally lengthen some time around 6 months, although it's always worth trying to encourage them back to sleep if they wake after 30 mins or so.

For nights, the best thing you can do at this age is to encourage "good habits". Try to get baby to settle without your help as much as you can. For me, I've always stuck it out until 6 months or so and then done gentle sleep training.

But I've also known some parents whose babies are breastfed for every sleep and just sleep through the night anyway. They're all different.

My DS needed help linking sleep cycles for naps from 3/4 months. He would wake bang on at 30 minutes but if we went straight in and settled him again in cot he would carry on sleeping. From about 5.5 months he starting linking sleep cycles on his own for naps, this also coincided when he started rolling and sleeping on his front. He slept alot better once he rolled and slept on his front (this happens to alot of babies)

Interesting that you say that about the rolling and tummy sleeping. Early hours of this morning my baby decided to sleep on his tummy for the first time and slept wonderfully! I'm not sure if he's going to be able to do it again soon though, I really hope so! As I know you're not supposed to put them on their tummies to sleep, it's up to them. 😬 @Sagittarius25
