Help with 11 month old not sleeping

My 11 month old has always been a horrendous sleeper. We have got to the stage where from 7pm (her bed time) myself or my parter has to stay in our bedroom holding her as she can’t be put down in her cot. She could be asleep in our arms for 30 mins and as soon as we put her down in the cot she will stand up and cry hysterically until we pick her up. Then as soon as we pick her up she goes back to sleep.

Because of this she has slept in our bed for the past 2 months as this is the only way for me to get any sleep (I am back at work full time and up at 5am for work).

This is really affecting my relationship with my partner as we aren’t getting to spend any time with eachother as the baby can’t be put down at all. I’m also struggling to even do things round the house as I more or less come home from work then get stuck in the bedroom with her for the rest of the night.

I am still breastfeeding her during the night however she has bottles of formula throughout the day and before she goes to bed when I am in work.

Has anyone else experienced a baby this bad with their sleep and does it ever get better?

In my experience babies don't sleep independently until much later. I used to feed to sleep on a mattress on the floor and then roll away, resettle (feed back to sleep) at about 8.15pm and then go to bed with them at about 9pm. Once they were 18 months or so we got an evening. I don't think your baby is a bad sleeper, just normal.

Hi @goldenretriever2000, I just wanted to give you some hope! My girl was really bad at sleeping until we got help from a sleep consultant and now she sleeps between 11-12 hours. The consultant helped us get the naps in the right place and helped us teach her how to self settle. It was crazy how quickly it worked! Have you considered getting help?
