17 month old bedtime

Hi all

My 17 month old DD has never been a good sleeper but it felt like we were slowly getting somewhere. Since she turned 16 months, it’s back to being a challenge, especially at bedtime. After I put her in her cot and leave her, it’s taking her over an hour to fall asleep. This is with us giving her time or sitting beside her if needed. She’s only put herself to sleep 3 times in her life and usually needs us to hold her hand through her cot bars. Regardless of what we do - leave her for longer, just sit beside her, hold her hand…she babbles away, plays with her teddy, starts to stand up etc anything to avoid going to sleep even though she’s exhausted. There have been a couple of times we’ve had to just hold her to sleep because it’s taken so long in her cot and we’re worried about her getting overtired.

Has anyone experienced this and was there a solution? Or do we just have to be patient? (Should add I’m 24 weeks pregnant so really want this to resolve before the new baby arrives!)

thanks!

If she's chatting and playing then I'd say she's not as tired as you think. I'd start your bedtime routine half an hour later or cut nap time down and see what happens.
