Newborn doesn’t sleep during the day

My two and a half week old baby just doesn’t seem to want to sleep during the day. I keep reading everywhere that newborns sleep between 16-18 hours a day but he does a few minutes here and there and the rest of the time is up and WIDE awake. He’s also cluster feeding at the moment and wants to eat every half an hour so it all feels very relentless. Is this resistance to sleep normal? He does sleep fairly well at night, settling about 10pm and sleeping til 2ish then up again at 5ish before sleeping for another couple of hours. But then he’s just up and at em for the rest of the day…

My children never slept as newborns, I wondered where that 16 - 18 hours a day came from and I'm still wondering 😅

Trust me you want it this way round. Dd1 was like this and I thought it was awful, oh she never naps but then dd2 came along. She'd sleep all day long, could literally hoover around her crib and she'd still be snoozing but cone 7pm she'd be wide awake, all night long...:awful just being up all night long with a wide awake baby 😵‍💫
Have you tried putting them in the pram and going for a walk in the day, go in the car maybe?

mine were like that. would snooze or at least be happy in a small tight sling upright on my chest, which was also the best way for me to get anything done.

It's normal that they won't stay asleep if put down but it's unusual that they don't sleep while being fed or held.
