Help us get more sleep! 4 month sleep regression?

Not sure if I’m in the right place here so let me know if I’m not!

really struggling at the moment with my baby’s sleep - he cries the second he is lowered into his crib, and once he’s finally asleep (after a lot of cuddles and comfort), he wakes up every 30-60 minutes and is really difficult to settle back down without feeding.

for context, he has slept perfectly through the night since he was 12 weeks old (usually 11pm-7am). I used to put him in his crib wide awake and he’d go to sleep without any issue.

he turned 4 months old on 1st May, started rolling recently and also had his jabs last week, so could that be causing an effect? I also started a routine with more regular daytime naps (he would be SO overtired by the evening).

I just can’t understand why he suddenly hates his crib and why he can’t sleep longer stretches. I spoke to our HV who said there’s very little evidence that a 4 month sleep regression is a real thing!?!

if anyone can offer any advice - anything that has worked for them, or any insight into why this is happening, please help!

I’m not interested in any sleeping training and definitely not CIO. If I just have to ride the wave then so be it, I just dont want this to be permanent if I can help it.

We went through the exact same, slept through but once 4 months hit it was horrendous, it was months and months of back and forward, to be honest she has only just got better in the past few months and she’s one now. I tried everything, the only thing that worked that I swore I would never do was Co sleep, it’s the only way me or her could get any sleep

The 4 month sleep regression is actually the only one that is very well documented and has a very real cause. Basically their sleep cycle matures around this time, some very real changes happen to their brains.

You were extremely lucky to have a baby that slept so well until now. Mine was a terrible sleeper and somehow got even worse at 4 months (from sleeping 2-3 hours to only 45 minutes at a time).

We tried cosleeping but it didn't work very well.

Eventually sleep trained close to 5 months and thank god I did.

I think some people argue against regressions because there's no set time for them, but in my experience they're absolutely real. Just something you've got to ride out unfortunately. Have you thought about cosleeping? It's the only thing that really gets us through the regressions. Son is 9 months now it's never affected his sleep in the long run going in his cot
