Baby won’t nap in the day

I have a 5 month old and she doesn’t nap in the day unless in car or in buggy. It’s really intense because I have tried EVERYTHING to get her to sleep and she gets mega grizzly in the day with no sleep - sometimes I don’t have the energy to take her out at 6am to get her to nap - she goes to sleep at 4pm and sleeps through with 1 wake up and wakes up at 5am. Have anyone else experienced this? It’s mega tough - I am breastfeeding and even feeding her to sleep in the day doesn’t work….

Both my girls were like that. I gave up on napping and just sorted my day after it.

Same here. My 6 month old refuses to nap, unless she's in the pram or it's max a 10 minute nap in the cot. It's miserable because they're so grumpy and whiney and you get zero breaks in the daytime.

Try a sling.. I couldn't have got through the early days without it!

Sounds like her routine is all over the place.

I'd make the 4pm sleep a cat nap and wake her up after 20 minutes. Then do tea, bath, milk and bed at 6.30pm.

Don't get her out of bed before 6am. Even if you bring her into bed with you and feed and snooze. Anything before 6am is a night waking.

I'd just accept buggy naps to be honest! Sleeping in a buggy in the house is fine. Get a snooze shade and white noise and push the buggy back and forward in the garden. Have you tried a Rockit to keep the buggy rocking so you get a break?
One of my own children and loads of babies I have childminded have been exclusive buggy nappers.

I'd aim for a short morning nap, long nap after lunch and a cat nap about 4pm.

My son never slept during the day from a few weeks old. He did like an early bedtime though and when old enough to speak and make a decision he used to ask to go to bed. He was always early to bed and early to rise and this had continued into adulthood.

Mine was a bit like this. I think around 6 months was when I started just rocking him in the pram in the living room and then leaving him to nap. At first he would take ages to go to sleep that way and wake up again after a few minutes, but gradually got easier to get him off and the naps grew longer. At around 18 months he would sometimes nap for 3 hours in his pushchair in the living room.

Alternatively you could look up the possums method, which is basically get them up and out first thing in the morning and just try and live your life without worrying about naps- I’ve heard it works for some babies

She sleeps for 13 hours? 4 pm - 5 am?
Sounds bloody marvellous to me.
