For the first time in over seven months, I have my hands free

By some astonishing miracle, my baby is asleep in his pram in the hallway. It’s been 37 minutes…

For the last 7.5 months, we have contact napped and co-slept. He doesn’t like to be put down, he awakes halfway through any transfers we attempt. I have calculated he is touching me (or very, very close to me) or feeding from me, for approximately 22 hours out of every 24.

So this is what it feels like. This is how everyone else by this point is cooking dinners, exercising, doing their hair and make up, having a clean house and so on. They’re hands free! Wow.

Presumably it has been an active choice never to put him down? Did you never put him in his crib/cot or pushchair when he was awake, so he knows no different to falling asleep on you now?

You presume very wrong! 😁

Oh we tried, and tried. We still try. In the early days he would scream, cry, scream some more. He would make himself sick with the crying. He simply couldn’t, wouldn’t be put down. These days we try it and he wakes up on transfer. I don’t think there’s a ‘technique’ we haven’t tried! But, still - we try!

My little one would hardly be put down for the 1st 3 months but since then has been a very happy baby, happy to be put down between naps and feeds and for some naps sleeps and now gradually overnight, my older children all co slept but happily sleep on their own now
