Hi all,

My DS is 16 weeks now, and he is getting ready to roll on his own. I currently swaddle him to put down at night (still contact naps during the day).

I know once he rolls I can't swaddle anymore; but his moro reflex is still so strong. We tried with a sleeping bag, and in moments he has got a jump scare, as well call them. And he won't settle, or sleep just becomes overtired and unhappy. His moro reflex is very strong.

What can I do? Any advise please.
Thanks

Have you tried a zippadee zip? They are like the love to dream swaddle but baggier so safe for rolling. Also is he definitely rolling yet? From back to front? If not then I’d say try a love to dream swaddle until he actually rolls. Apparently rolling from back to front is harder so might be a little while before he can do it x

Mine rolled back to front at 11 weeks and had very strong moro reflex and also kept slapping himself in the face all the time. It was incredibly painful, his sleep just went down the pan because of rolling + unswaddling. Went from getting 6-7 hours of sleep at 10 weeks to then spending the next 3 months being woken up every 90 minutes.

There really isn't much you can do. Yes, you can use one of those swaddles that leave his arms free but I know from experience it won't help that much.

You do need to unswaddle when he first shows signs of rolling, not once he is already rolling as he may do it in the night and you won't see it/hear it.
