Worried about toddler being cold

My little girl is 17 months, she generally runs quite hot. In the winter she has a 2.5 tog sleep sack but the last few weeks as the weather has been warmer she hasn't wanted it. Her room has consistently been about 22 degrees most of the last few weeks and she's slept in a vest and a long sleeved sleepsuit with feet. The few nights it was 24 degrees she just had a sleepsuit.

Tonight her room was just under 20 degrees at bedtime. I tried to put the sleep sack on her but she was having none of it, so she's in a vest and long sleeved sleepsuit. She's fast asleep but her room is now 18 degrees.

The radiator in her room is noisy when it first goes on. If I put it on now it will wake her up. I could put a blanket over her but she wriggles a lot. Will probably get her legs tangled up in it and that would wake her up.

So I'm thinking to just leave her. She would wake up and cry if she was cold, right?

She’ll be fine. Yes, if she’s cold she’ll wake and you’ll hear about it!

Ihad2Strokes · 16/04/2025 23:18

I'd put her into her sleeping sack, so then she won't wake up cold later.

mainly so we aren't all awake late!!

if you don't, she'll be fine, but yeah will let you know loudly if she's cold!!

If I do that she will definitely wake up!

I've never forgotten what a midwife said to me when my oldest was a newborn. Cold babies cry, hot babies die. Very simplistic and probably more relevant to younger babies but it's pretty sound advice when you're second guessing yourself about what to dress them in!

My youngest has always preferred to be colder. He's 8 and just sleeps in pants all year round. It's got to be freezing for him to have the blanket over him as well. That's just him, he'll be one of those blokes in shorts in January when he's an adult

My little girl always sleeps better when it’s cooler. However they do tend to wake and let you know if they’re cold so don’t worry x

How did your night go?

Because the sleep sacks open right up, I never had any problem getting them into them without waking them up, but I probably would have still done it anyway as it would only wake them up a bit and easier to settle then if they woke up later being too cold and really waking up.

did she sleep through or did she wake up cold later on?

PerfectPennyKilledMyHusband · 17/04/2025 11:06

@Ihad2Strokes she slept through! She just doesn't seem to feel the cold.

@NerrSnerr my dad was like that, shorts all year round. She must take after him!

Thanks everyone.

Excellent!!

Before I had my strokes, I didn't really feel the cold either, always kicking the blankets off Window's open. Shorts all the time.

I won't bore you with all the details, but I definitely feel the cold more now!

I wish you continued nights of her sleeping through!!! it makes such a difference💕

@Ihad2Strokes it really does! Thank you 😊
