10 month old waking every 20 mins at night - no joke

Our usually amazing sleeper has now starting waking every 15-20mins at night.

she sits up and screams until we come in, lie her back down where she drifts back off straight away then repeats… all night.

she’s recently started nursery as I’m back to work and does not nap in the day more than 30mins.
before this with me she would nap an hour and a half in the morning and the same in the afternoon. So it’s a very sudden and drastic change.

I think she’s incredibly overtired and out of routine aswell as teething but I simply cannot cope any longer this way. I’m in tears most nights. I end up just putting her in bed with me but I don’t think that’s helping.

she is waking up screaming instantly.

she has calpol and teething gel, is fed, nappy checked.
I just don’t know what else to do but I am broken

Get her ears and tonsils checked for an infection.

Teeth

You need to get her back to longer naps because if they don't get enough day sleep then their night sleep goes to complete shit as you're seeing now.

Has she learnt a new skill recently ? I find with mine when they learnt to crawl/pull themselves up/stand there sleep went to shit and they would wake up throughout the night ! Currently going through it with my 14 month old who has learnt to stand

Overthebow · 11/04/2025 06:20

Why is she only napping for 30 minutes during the day? She needs more then that at 10 months and lack of naps can mess up night sleep.

onwardsup4 · 11/04/2025 06:25

Yes needs to be napping much more at nursery why isn’t she? She must be so tired if she’s waking that often in the night too. She’s got over tired, once she’s settled at nursery and napping again she should settle down.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2025 06:30

Is she not settling at nursery for a nap ? That age needs least hr am (9/10) and 2hrs pm (1/3) tho she may need to get into the sleep time of nursery

sleep breed sleep and bad daytime sleep means bad nights as you have gathered

talk to nursery and ask them to make sure she sleeps whether that’s being patted till settles or in a buggy

Confusgurl · 11/04/2025 08:12

She’s only been at nursery for a week so I’m hoping she will settle more.
they don’t have a separate room for naps so I think she gets distracted.

im going to book the Drs today to check ears aswell

Not a solution but to help in the meantime, you said until WE come in. I'll take that to assume there are 2 of you? So you need to do shifts, one gets a few hours with white noise and earplugs then the other takes over, just to make sure you aren't both up every 20 minutes. Just until things settle down.
