Creative ideas for getting toddler to fall asleep without physically touching me

Hi everyone
I've managed to stop feeding to sleep my almost 2 year old (this is a huge thing for me!), but now they will only fall asleep if their head is on my lap! Which means they're still waking up about an hour after falling asleep (I'm guessing because their environment is differen).

Any slow progression ideas to get LO to fall asleep without being physically on me? They go NUTS if I even vaguely try to move them off me! Even when I think they're on the cusp of sleep.

Eventually I'll do gradual retreat, but this feels like the next big step right now after BFing.

Talk to him about going to sleep in his cot/bed. Put him in his cot/bed and hold his hand and/or sing/read to him. Put him in his cot/bed and do chores upstairs so he is aware of your presence. Put him in his cot/bed and play music. Put him in his cot/bed with an item of your clothing. Use a pillow spray on his sheets https://www.thisworks.com/products/baby-sleep-wake-up-duo. Whatever you do, you're probably going to have to accept a couple of weeks of him going nuts!

Introduce a soft toy that can go to bed too?
