My almost 8 month old is waking up at 5am/5:30am.

So my baby had always been a good sleeper. 8:30pm-8:45am since he was 10 weeks old. Once he hit around six months his wake time got slightly earlier starting the day around 7:30am, which was fine. Recently however he has been starting the day extra early at around 5am/5:30. I know people will say this is normal for a baby of this age, but surely there is a way I can get him to sleep even an hour longer? This doesn't work for our family. In the past week/week and a half I have gradually moved his bed time to the earlier time of 7:30pm, thinking maybe he was over tired, but this hasn't seemed to help at all. I also feel like he is fighting his day time naps and only has a lengthy nap if he is in his pram. Any suggestions welcome.

Sorry, no useful advice, I had 2 terrible sleepers who refused naps and I think what you have had sounds incredible and I'd just get up at 5.30 with him to be honest! Xx

I know, I am grateful and don't want to sound like I'm complaining 🫣 but curious to see if there's anything that could help us shift the early mornings x

I kept my two to a 7:30 at the earliest time to wake up. If they woke up early I used to sit with next to the cot and pat back down to sleep. Obviously if she woke up at 7 this was easier to wait out than from 5:30. So from 5:30 you may just end up getting him up at 6:30. But just keep lying him back down and soothing for as long as you can. I found she would wake up a bit later each day until we hit 7:30 again.

If you’re getting out of bed, having boob or bottle then of course they will wake up early the next day. It becomes the habit .
