Baby screaming hysterically when going to sleep

My five month old screams hysterically when going to sleep. It doesn't matter how quickly or slowly I put him down to nap after seeing tiredness cues he screams hysterically, arching his back and going rigid. This will continues for a good few minutes (feels like forever!) until he suddenly goes to sleep. It doesn't make any difference what I do during this time. It's like he just needs to scream and scream as part of going to sleep but he doesn't always do it when going to sleep at night.
What am I doing wrong??? Is this normal?

Is this at the same time every day? My dd1 used to do this every evening for a while. It was exhausting. She had colic. I think we used to give her gripe water, I don’t know if that’s still a thing, I’m going back 18 years. It did last a couple of weeks or so if I remember rightly.

Colief is also very good for colic, my daughter had it from newborn to 8 months of age. Good luck I hope the recommendation helps x
