Sleeping issues

Hello everyone!

I am looking for any advice or tips as I am writing this message, bleary eyed and on the verge of losing it 😅

My child is 2 years and 3 months old. We’ve never really had any issues with sleep before but it all started the week before Christmas. She was ill for 3-4 days with vomiting and fever so she slept with us for a few nights. Then when she was better she didn’t want to sleep in her cot, I thought it was because she wasn’t 100% so I put her mattress on the floor in our room. After that we went on holiday for Christmas and when we arrived we realised the cot that the hotel had provided was too small and she would be able to climb out of it. So she ended up sleeping with us for the 10 nights we were away… 😬😬

Fast forward to getting home and it’s been 5 weeks of problems. She wouldn’t go in her cot so we took the bars off, she still wouldn’t go in it so we ended up transitioning her to a toddler bed. She loves the bed but won’t sleep in it, she insists on sleeping with us. We really have tried to be very firm with her but it hasn’t worked well and has only resulted in hysterical crying from my child, stress with me and my husband and a very upset child.

The issues are that she is unwilling to go to bed at her normal bedtime (8:00pm) - I have kept to the routine of dinner, bath, stories, brush teeth and bed. She follows all of this and has her milk and then she is up and about (she’s worked out how to open the door too).

The other issue is that she is unwilling to sleep in her own bed - she has slept in it twice. Once with my husband and the second after I transferred her and she woke up shortly after hysterical.

Any advice would be welcome!

Thank you
