My just turned 2 year old has suddenly over the last month stopped napping at home. He goes to nursery 3 days a week and naps there for 30-60 minutes, previously at home he would nap for 1-2 hours in his cot but now he just won't. I try putting him in his cot every day at nap time and he just stands there and cries until I take him out. I feel like he absolutely does still need a nap as he is totally exhausted by the evening when he doesn't nap, even after a nap at nursery he is still pretty tired, the longer naps at home I think used to make up for just doing a short one at nursery.
The only way I can get him to do a nap at home now is to breastfeed him to sleep in bed and he will sleep 30/40 mins, I used to do this a lot when he was younger but haven't for ages. He has never been one for falling asleep out in the buggy for a walk or in the car, takes hours of walking or driving for him to nod off. He used to sleep being rocked in his buggy at home and nursery before he started napping in his cot, but he's been napping in his cot at home and a mat at nursery for 6+ months now. I have tried rocking him in his buggy at home when he stopped napping and that didn't work.
He sleeps really really well at night, doesn't wake up at all and hasn't for probably a year. He gets up in the morning about an hour later on a non nursery day so I did try getting him up earlier but he still didn't nap and was even more exhausted by bed time 🫤
Any ideas? Is it a phase that might pass? The only plus side is that he falls asleep in minutes at bedtime now, whereas before if he napped too long it could be hours until he went to sleep.
