17mth boy stirs during the night

Baby boy is about to be 17mths on the 23rd. He stirs over 5times a night. He goes to bed about 7ish with a bottle of cows milk and self soothes (after lots of dinner and bath).... but then most of the time around 11ish/midnight he then starts stirring. He doesn't actually wake, but just calls/cries out but very loud and wakes everyone...doesn't settle until you go in and either give water or pop dummy back in. Sometimes he's agitated and doesn't want either and doesn't want to be picked up but has his eyes clothes - just thrashes around. He drinks lots of water through the night 5-9oz's. he won't drink from a sippy cup left in his bed (can drink from this in the day, but doesn't in bed)...likes his milk bottle with water in it. He sometimes sits up but is still asleep or very sleepy. Doesn't want to be awake but just unsettled. Have a night light, but nursery rhymes back on etc... Any ideas welcomed.

Could the bedtime milk be upsetting his tummy?
Once my child switched to just water, he was waking / thrashing much less. His tummy aches were waking him.

will give that a try... was your child satisfied with just water? mine does like water but also likes his milk before bed (guess its just a routine hes' got use to)
