Just wondering if anyone has any advice my son is 1 tomorrow and no matter what time he goes to bed he wakes up at 4am on the dot everyday and is still waking up through the night some times for milk but sometimes he will just cry and eventually goes back to sleep. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or tips on how I could try to help him to sleep better or stay in bed longer in the mornings? When he has slept at my dads in the past they tell me how he's slept all night and didn't wake up till 8am but I don't do anything different to them? It can be difficult to get him to fall to sleep and through out the day his naps can be really short, sometimes he only has 1 a day for about 30 mins? He's my first child so any advice would be appreciated

I'm not a sleep expert in any way (but have a 17 month old) I would think one 30 min nap is not sufficient at his age. Is it possible he's wildly overtired by bedtime? When they're overtired the get an extra shot of cortisol to keep them awake and that can lead to early rising

This is our rough routine, if it helps?

  • wake up 6am
  • nap 12-3pm (we aim for 3 hours but sometimes only manage 1.5hrs)
  • bath and bedtime routine starts at 6.15
  • in bed by 7/7.30

What time is his nap?
