4 year old fighting bedtime

Is it just my 4 year old or is it a phase where they piss around at bedtime? I can see he's exhausted, he's yawning his head off but is fighting it so hard. Just been this week, don't know why...maybe post Xmas come down and back to school. UGH!

Yes. They really fight it. My DS11 has always been like this. I ended up lying down next to him and telling him stories I made up out of my head about himself and his friends or cousins until he falls asleep. Not sure this is a recommended approach really but it works for mine.

My son is 5 now and he definitely went through a phase of refusing to go to bed when he was 4 - 4 and a half. We had to introduce a reward chart for a end of week treat to nip it in the bud.
