2.5yo split nights

2.5yo DS has mostly been a great sleeper with little effort. He’s dropping his nap at the moment but split nights seem to be happening every now and then when he’s not had a nap.
He has a structured bedtime and is usually placid at going down, but the last week or so has woken at 3ish for at least an hour and a half. Asking for me/daddy, wanting us to sing songs etc. Have been in to reassure him, have tried talking to him on the monitor, have tried leaving him longer as he’s not actually crying more like whining and asking lots of questions.
Is this common or just a phase? We have travelled round a bit for holidays recently so hoping it will be better when back to nursery tomorrow…

Mine had split nights around 17 months and the only way we could stop it was to give her less daytime sleep so we shortened her nap, but that's clearly not the reason it's happening to your little boy! So sorry i can't help, but i remember the hell of it. Her longest split night involved a 4 hour wake and nights like that were just awful. She's just turned 2 and i dread it happening again. Even the sleep experts say sometimes it's developmental and nothing you do can fix it, you have to ride it out. . . . Good luck
