Hi all!

I need some help. Any ideas please. My DS is a year old and has never slept throughout the night. Exclusively breastfed for 6 months and weaned successfully thereafter but has had breast milk as the main drink and we are just starting to introduce bottle milk though he still doesn’t like it.

He goes to nursery 3 times a week, has 1-2 naps daily between 30 mins to 1.5 hrs. He wakes up almost every 1-2 hours at night wanting the boob for comfort and will only go back to sleep while on boob. We are having to co sleep because of this. I’m back at work and will be starting night shifts in a week so desperate for some help. Dear husband is also working and is very helpful and will wake up to carry DS 2-3 times at night(walk around the room with DS cuddled) until he falls asleep then puts him back to bed with us. The other 3-4 times I will put DS on breast and he falls back to sleep very quickly though some times can sleep on boob and wakes up soon as I try to gently get him off boob. Cycle goes on like this every night. We are both so exhausted at the moment and are thinking of a sleep consultant but would like to explore some ideas first as it’s quite expensive for a sleep consultant.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Look up Lynsey Hookway on insta - very gentle changes to make (takes time as no crying it out but habit stacking and changing the sleep association might be helpful). We had the same until nearly two and then I gently changed how she fell asleep which really helped - still pops into bed with us but generally close to morning. Best of luck - lack of sleep is horrible. If you do go sleep consult route, make sure you investigate thoroughly and feel comfortable with their methods - as you say it’s expensive. Be really wary of anyone who promises guarantees etc - tend not to be child focused. But there are some decent ones too, just do the research!

You can reduce the amount of milk you feed your baby every night or gradually replace it with other methods such as comforting and cuddling. @Geometry Dash Lite
