20 month old sleep

I have a 20 month old little boy and for about two weeks his bedtimes have been a nightmare!!!

He is absolutely fine going down for a nap, and up until recently was fine going to bed at night with a nice routine and always very calm, but the past two weeks have been hell on Earth.

He is in a toddler bed (he is very tall so could easily climb over the cot sides) and we'll put him in bed as normal, close the door but then he starts running around the house. He is tall so can reach the door handle, and he SCREAMS when he's put back in bed. I have two older girls who sleep in the room next door so I can't have him screaming or he'll wake them up. I just can't figure out what to do. The past week I've sat with him until he's fallen asleep but he was up until 10.30 the other night!!!!

Current routine is up at 7.45, nap 1-3, wind down time at 7.30 and "lights out" at 8.

If he’s taking until 10.30 to go to sleep perhaps he’s not tired enough. I know it feels rough but the best thing I ever did for my little girl’s bedtime when it got that like was cut the nap significantly. At 2 she was having an hour max. 2y4m dropped altogether. Her bedtime is earlier (6pm some nights!) but she sleeps great and actually goes down no problem. I did a month of what you’re doing now and it was truly hideous! Good luck.

Thank you so much! Yes my older ones stopped napping at 2 as well so I might try this
