My 9 week old has been really challenging for the last 2 weeks and I’d love some advice and whether he’s likely to grow out of this stage.
He barely naps during the day, an hour and a half about twice, and regularly exceeds his wake windows even when I’m trying everything to get him to sleep. He’s wide awake looking around constantly and wanting entertainment.
If I try to get him to sleep on me he sometimes will but has been thrashing around and fighting me / aggressively rooting even when full (and then spits out the nipple if I offer it) when I try and hug him close, he likes to sit against my knees so he can look around.
He gets increasingly unsettled through the day until from around 4pm - 8pm daily he’s crying constantly even when fed, clean nappy, bathed, etc. I BF and when I try and continue to BF he punches me, constantly unlatches, cries and thrashes.
Tonight he’s just gone down in his bassinet after purple crying and being awake for 4 hours, drinking a big bottle of 150ml formula and then having a BF on top of this. I also don’t know how a 9 week olds stomach can hold this much milk.
he’s sleeping around 13 hrs per day total and waking around 2 x per night for feeding between 8-8 which is good. However I’m worried he’s not actually getting enough sleep for development as read they need at least 15 hours at this age.
does anyone have any advice? Sling etc won’t work when he is fighting and doesn’t seem to want to be held, doesn’t want to be put down either, just generally is so over hyped. Really hoping this is a stage that will end soon.
Thank you!
