6 year old still comes in to our bed

6 yo DS has never slept well. He needs one of us with him to fall asleep so this can take an hour most nights. He used to be better and we could leave him alone after a bit awake and he’d then fall asleep now he won’t. He also comes in to us every single night! We set up a bed on the floor because we were exhausted and every night he comes in and sleeps in it but he’s taken to getting in our bed now instead as he’s scared he says! There is no room, I am so uncomfortable but he won’t be put back and I give up!

Are any other kids like this at 6?!

My husband sleeps with my son who’s 5 (6 in Feb) we’ve always co slept as he just never took to sleep training and would throw up if we let him cry it out.

We also have to spend 30-60 mins getting him to fall asleep at night on top of this. I’ve always said it’s a phase he’ll grow out of it but time is going on now so in the same boat as you really. I know it’s not advice I just wanted you to know you’re not alone xxx

I think this is much more normal than is made out on mumsnet. My DD is 8 and still wanders in half sleep for a cuddle. I have many friends who do various versions of cosleeping. I don't know anyone doing it post about 9.

My 6 year old still comes into our bed in the middle of the night. When he comes up one of us goes down to his bed. Doesn’t bother me at all.

Yes definitely much more common and natural than is made out.
At 6 they are still small babies really, where do baby dogs and cats sleep? With their mummy.

They'll out grow it in their own time. And the last place he'll want to be at 16 is in your bed.
Enjoy those cuddles because it will tapper off and sometime it just won't happen again.

Having similar issues!! Have a 5.5 yo it's exhausting' except mine kicks us when she sleeps in our bed so we're having to take turns with her on who doesn't sleep when she comes in and the other goes in the spare etc, she also screams the house down if we try to put her back and gets up up anywhere from 3-5 times a night! When will it ever end I feel it's going to be 8-9 for us 😫😳

It’s just a security thing. My daughter stopped at nine.

9 isn't so bad it's still a while away I suppose but it is so draining at times 😩
