Floor bed for 9 month old

Hi all

I am looking for anyone with experience of a floor bed for an infant, as we’re considering getting one and would really like to hear about peoples experience of these with their babies.

For background / context

My daughter is 9 months, she is breastfed and otherwise eats solids well, she’s never taken well to a bottle.

She contact naps and feeds to sleep. Largely contact naps because if I put her down she has a short nap whereas I can get her to have a longer one if held.

After bedtime of an evening she begins in her own cot in her own room but has frequent wake ups requiring re settling (usually nursing back to sleep). Then at some point usually once I’ve just gone to bed whatever the next wake up is after that point I bring her in with me and we co sleep and my husband goes to the spare room. Even with co sleeping she wakes a lot and often I think I disturb her, she paws at me to find a boob latches on and then goes back to sleep very frequently throughout the night. All in all I don’t get much sleep!

She is a lovely happy thriving baby girl and we are beyond delighter with her. To be fair even despite the sleep (or lack of) I manage pretty well, but as we approach a year I wonder if things do not improve in terms of sleep before going back to work (which isn’t for a few months yet) I might struggle more so. And would like a bit more of an evening without soo many wake ups.

Re the floor bed the plan would be to replace her cot in her nursery with a floor bed , one big enough for me to sleep on with her.
I am hoping if she sleep on this for naps, I may be able to roll away and she stay asleep. And the same for night time sleep. I wonder if at some point if we co sleep there, eventually I will be able to leave her to it and she might sleep longer than she would in her cot, alone.
I feel we all might get better quality sleep this way and also feel it’s safer than sleeping on our high bed.

My questions around the floor bed are

has anyone found it to improve sleep? (Or not?)

she isn’t crawling yet and of course I know we will need to baby proof the room but has anyone got experience of this causing issues with baby being mobile ?

what to do about baby sleeping bag once crawling?

any suggestions on a floor bed with rails or one without ?

Any comments on your experience with a floor bed good or bad are appreciated!

thanks!

I also have a 9 month old who has been in their floor bed since they were 6 months old

I don't know if it was the bed or the fact they went into their own room at the same time but that's when they simultaneously night weaned and started sleeping through the night. Also bf but does take one bottle of formula before bedtime and also was never obsessed by my boobs/milk, even when we were cosleeping which we did from 2-5 months

She can crawl and pull up and things but doesn't when in bed. It may be because we only use the bedroom for sleeping so she doesn't associate it with moving around. Regardless the room has been baby proofed, in fact there is nothing in it except the bed.

No rails on the bed and she wears a sleeping bag lol. She has fallen out twice in all the time he has been sleeping in it so 2-3 naps a day plus overnight for 3 months. Once was because she rolled off and the other I'm not sure as it was the middle of the night and I saw on the monitor she was sitting up on the floor

We have been on holiday and had to use cribs and it has made me love the floor bed even more as I find leaning over to put them down so difficult whereas I can kneel next to a floor bed super easily

Any other questions I'm happy to answer!

Hi OP. I know this was a year ago but do you have an update? I couldn’t have written the first message myself. I am in a very similar situation with DS and also considering a floor bed? Did you get one and how did you find it if so?
