21 month old waking at night again

My dd 21 months has been sleeping through for probably about 6 months unless poorly, but she's now started waking between 1-3am. Sometimes she's really upset and shouts for me, other times she sits up for ages so I leave her and see but she then gets upset after a while. When I go in she won't settle unless I give her milk, I'm still breastfeeding but want to wean her (another problem, doesn't want to give it up!) if I don't give milk she gets in a right state

Is there a progression around this time?

Regression not progression 🤣

Following this for advice. My 20 month old is the same.

Can be linked to other developmental changes, changes in the family environment or a growth spurt. It's very common for sleep to vary in the early years, same for feeding requirements.

When our little started doing split nights at 17 months, we had to shorten her nap to resolve it. How long does your little one nap for?

Hi @teaandkittehs I did wonder whether this could be the cause, although she still seems tired when she wakes, just upset which she doesn't usually get like in the night

She does still nap for 2 hours though I have tried 1-1.5hr the last few days and hasn't really made much difference yet 😩

Ours was doing up to 2.5 and we cut it to 1.5 and after a week or two it worked, but from what I've read even the sleep experts admit that some of them are juts at a developmental stage whereby it will happen and you can't solve it, so we will never know whether it resolved by itself or through our actions. Thank fuck it did resolve though, it was an awful time, I really feel for you. I hope it resolves soon xx

@teaandkittehs Thankyou, I'll keep at it with the shorter naps for a few weeks and hope for the best!! She did the whole split nights thing when she needed to drop down to one nap and it was hell but this time she's getting so upset with it and does seem genuinely tired still just doesn't want to go back to sleep!!
