20 month old won’t sleep help :(

My 20 month old has always been a crap sleeper but lately it’s getting ridiculous, he’s not going to sleep until around midnight and then he’s awake for the day at 5am ish and doesn’t nap at all. Honestly I don’t know how he’s surviving because I barely am!

He’s never had daytime naps I’ve tried everything even driving around in the car, pushing a pram, taking him to his bedroom and trying a nap in there. Nighttime gives me a sense of dread as I know it’ll take at least 4 hours to get him to sleep. I’ve tried literally everything I can think of even had a friend send me a sleep routine she’d paid for her toddler. It’s honestly exhausting me, I’ve tried putting him to bed earlier, later. Nothing matters.

he typically has tea around 5.30 I’ve tried later and earlier to no success, he has a bath before bed and a good hour wind down. Thing is he’s so happy until bedtime and it’s like he won’t shut off? He’s soo hyperactive he needs constant stimuli all day and when it’s time to sleep he has a meltdown.

i haven’t had longer than 5 hours sleep with him and that’s with him waking up atleast 2-3 times during that.

I’m probably going to book a doctors appt for advice but I doubt they could do anything?

has anyone else experienced such a bad sleeper, I’m literally beyond exhausted, my eldest was fussy going to bed but not like this I’m at my wits end tbh :(

I feel like I’ve tried everything, read every sleep training advice online but nothing works it’s like he can’t shut off until he’s cried for hours and fell asleep in exhaustion, he stayed awake until 5am the other night and woke up at 8am and stayed awake all day until bedtime and then didn’t go asleep until 1am. It’s driving me crazy!

Oh dear, I am sorry you are going through this! I don't have any advice but didn't want to read and run as I have a bad sleeper myself. Not as bad as yours, though.
I do remember when the health visitor did her 2 year check, there was a question about if she gets at least 10h sleep per day (mibe was at exactly 10h). The HV told me anything under becomes a bit concerning. So maybe give the HV a ring too?

Also, where does your DC sleep? Own room? Have you tried in your room and bed?

@kisaki333 ah I didn’t know they’d ask about sleep at his review i will definitely mention it. I haven’t seen my HV for months I’ll give her a call and see whether she has some advice, silly of me but I didn’t even think of that!

he sleeps in his own room and has done from around 10 months as he outgrew his next to me and his cot wouldn’t fit in our room unfortunately. I have tried him in my bed but he ends up waking more wanting to play, he’s only fell asleep at midnight tonight and he’s up again now 😢 just honestly don’t know what else to do! But he’s for sure not getting anywhere close to 10 hours in a day😣
