Has anyone sleep trained with a dummy?

My son has just turned 6 months old.
He has never been the greatest sleeper.. we had the odd night months ago where he would have a 4-5 hour stretch but rare. It’s been every 2-3 hours for the last couple of months now. We started to only feed if he went 4 hours (as in the day he feeds around every 4 hours) and if he woke before that point we would try his dummy. I know the dummy is a problem as he can’t find it and put it back in himself. He settles very well with the dummy! So I’m obviously reluctant to take it away but also want him to learn to self soothe..
He is taking full bottles when he has a feed usually he is in bed around 6:30/7 and has a feed at 10 or 11pm then 2 or 3am. Wakes at 5, dummy in.. wakes at 6.. usually awake for the day at that time. Never sleeps later than 6:30am.
I never thought I’d want to sleep train but I now feel desperate 😟 he went into his own room last weekend! I don’t mind feeding him at all, as I do think he’s hungry if he’s taking full bottles? It’s just the 2 hour wakings are killing me 😅

So as you've realised he is hungry (milk shouldn't be stopped overnight until at least a year old) and waking every two hours is normal (but understandably exhausting). So for sleep training, what are you trying to achieve? Because he gets his comfort from either you, his dummy, or his milk at the moment. All of those are needs for a very young baby. If he doesn't cry out for them, then where does that actually leave him? He can't get any of those things for himself.

@Ktx6 yes, and it helped slightly. Settling for sleeps became so much easier , then when he could replace his own dummy , he started sleeping through!
