4 week old long naps during day but waking every hour at night?

My baby is EBF and is hard to get to nap during the day. He just seems very alert all the time. Once he does nap he can be sleeping 3-4 hours sometimes (very peacefully also!) but at night he is so noisy and seems to wake every 1.5 hours.
The first couple weeks he used to go 3 hours between feeds overnight.
i am considering giving some formula before bed to see if it helps him sleep longer

Can anyone advise?

Baby is having a leap…this is all very normal.
once you start giving formula it may lead down a road of having to constantly top up with formula. It’s not a given that he will sleep longer on formula anyway

Do take baby out in the fresh air for a walk, or out in the pram while you garden every day - research showed the fresh air and light outside helps baby sleep better overnight. You need to sign up to read (free) but found this useful

Personally I wouldn't let a 4 week old sleep that long in the day. I'd wake them after 3 hours since the beginning of the last feed, change them and feed again.

At 4 weeks they still don't know the difference between day and night but you can help by feeding them regularly during the day and keeping thinkers bright.

Also agree that sunlight aids nighttime sleep.

It all does sound perfectly normal though Wink

Mine is now three months but I started giving him a bottle of formula before bed at about four weeks. He's slept for a minimum of six hours every night since so I've done it each night since. Not saying it's the right thing to do, nor that this will be everyone's experience, just thought I'd share mine :)
